PA Omega Gamma Wins IFC Chapter of the Year

The PA Omega Gamma Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity was recognized with multiple awards at their recent Fraternity & Sorority Awards presentation. Most notably, the chapter was recognized as the Chapter of the Year within the Inter-Fraternity Council!

The chapter was also recognized with the distinction of being a “Chapter of Excellence” in 2012. Their past President, Miles Urban, was recognized with the award for best Living the Ritual of one’s Greek organization, and the Chapter even placed 4th overall in the highly competitive Greek Sing competition.

“They were all great awards, but I’m most proud of the Chapter of the Year Award”, said incoming President (Rex) Will Kacsur. When asked what things the chapter did to become so successful, Kacsur spoke of their heavy involvement by brothers in on campus activities like Homecoming and Dance Marathon, as well as Greek related events like Greek Week and Greek Sing. In regards to Dance Marathon, the chapter raised approximately $30,000 to benefit that cause!

Kacsur also credited the chapter’s interaction and collaboration with Dr. Roy Baker (Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life at PSU) with making a difference in their ultimate success. When collaborating with the head of your Fraternity & Sorority community, they can offer a lot of great insight!

Kacsur provided some interesting insight into the goals of PA Omega Gamma moving forward. Kacsur shared, “Only 6 chapters got to be distinguished as a Chapter of Excellence. We know it is hard to repeat that distinction, but we want to. I feel it would be a failure if we didn’t earn that distinction again next year.” Kacsur offered that it is not enough to win something once. If you were really committed to getting better and being the best, you would have to demonstrate that more than just one time.

When asked about what advice he could offer to other chapters, Kacsur provided the following thoughts:

Have reasonable goals. Our goal wasn’t to win Chapter of the Year. It was simply to improve our standing within Greek Life. The trophy was an unintended result of the work.
It all starts with one motivated brother. It can [inspire] other brothers. It they see one brother lead the way, others will follow.
